Nowadays, the world faces global challenges, which requires global solutions. Education is one of the keys to preparing individuals to face the era of globalization. Therefore, I believe that an individual who undergoes international education will have a greater chance of self-awareness to become an active global citizen.
First, international education provides a new way of looking at various things. A fish that lives in an aquarium for years will have a totally different point of view with a fish that lives in a sea. The aquarium fish will feel comfortable in their own environment because there are no predators, and the fish does not know what really happens outside their environment. Whereas, a fish that lives in the sea will know the challenges outside and become more aware of the outcome. This illustration shows that individuals who have a background in international education will be more prepared to face global challenges. Thus, international education will encourage him/her to be an active global citizen.
Second, international education prepares an individual to become an active global citizen. The focus of education itself is to provide the necessary skills, values, and understandings so that a student may be prepared in the near future. In my opinion, a person can also develop his/ her intercultural skills through international education. The advancement of technology alone is not enough for an individual to become a global citizen, instead an individual needs to be transformed through a process. And international education provides it.
In conclusion, international education ignites self-awareness and prepares an individual to become an active global citizen. Through the challenges that an individual will face during his/ her study, the individual will be transformed into someone who wants to be an active global citizen. Therefore, I truly believe that international education supports global citizenship.
